Etno Mara - Be yourself in your own
Support Etno Mara in opening a multipurpose space that will serve as an ethno treasury and atelier, a workshop for the creation of clothing and souvenirs inspired by Croatian national heritage! The space Etno Mara acquired in Zagreb, Malešnica, by selling their inheritance and taking a bank loan, is currently in the rohbau phase. For it to serve its new purpose, it is necessary to equip and design it.
Etno Mara is a brand with a 23-year-old tradition and is hoping to continue its work at this address. The new space will also serve as an educational centre, a place where visitors will be able to explore and get to know the bounty of Croatian national heritage.

Meet Etno Mara
Etno Mara creates clothing garments and souvenirs with Croatian heritage motifs. Amongst recognizable motifs which they connect to the fashion needs of contemporary men and women are gold embroidery, Glagolitic script, braided motifs, lace from Pag and Lepoglava as well as motifs specific to Šestine folk costumes and Sinjalka uniform.
Vesna Milković founded the brand Etno Mara in 1999. Following the burning desire to create something built on her love of design and tradition, she left her job as a lawyer. The passion for this work seeped into the life of her daughter Marija, who holds a costume design degree from the faculty of Textile Technology in Zagreb.
In search of inspiration, the designers also collaborate with renowned Croatian ethnologists, folklorists, and historians.
The business currently employs four people.
The high-quality, innovative, and recognizable Etno Mara creations have their most avid fans among Croatians and the Croatian diaspora, but the interest is steadily growing international markets, increasingly more appreciative of autochthonous, original, and handmade objects.
Be a part of Etno Mara's ethno treasury & atelier opening
Etno Mara clothing and souvenirs are currently created in a humble rented space, and designers also use their own apartment.
The setup of this new space will signify a new beginning and favourable wind in the sales of this business. The atelier will serve as a workshop for new collections of clothing and souvenirs. The segment of the ethno treasury will be dedicated to educational programs focused on Croatian heritage. In this unique educational space visitors of all ages, from children to senior citizens, will be able to get to know Croatian non-material heritage. Among other things, they will learn to write in Glagolitic script under expert guidance, they will be able to study ancient missals, and get familiar with various ways of garment adornment such as šlinga and gold embroidery style.
Investment plan
The necessary basic work to get the space up and running alone will require a fund of 180.000 kn.
This encompasses the essential expenses of plumbing, basic lighting, dividing walls, and a fresh coat of paint.
400.000 kn would allow for full space refurbishment which is needed to match its important new function. The sum would be enough to finance the acquisition of archiving equipment for vast collected funds of sensitive items as well as the education programs for the visitors.
